Instagram and Cyber Security: What You Need to Know
We cannot say it enough. Two-factor authentication is so important to your overall cyber security. Instagram is the latest app to roll out Two-Factor Authentication.
Kevin Systrom, the co-founder of Instagram, previously made a commitment to “keep Instagram a safe place for everyone and build tools to safeguard self-expression” on the platform. In an effort to make good on his promise, Systrom announced late last week that 2FA is now available to everyone. “This tool adds an extra layer of security to your Instagram account by requiring a code every time you log in”. Turning on this feature is very easy. All you need to do is go to your profile, click on the icon in the upper right hand corner, choose “Two-Factor Authentication”, and move the toggle to turn on.
While 2FA is not a “cure all” for cyber security, this one small step could save you a world of trouble in the long run. The fact that more and more apps are offering this security open goes to show how important it is.
86 percent of employees access company emails via their mobile devices.
With smartphone penetration at an all-time high, mobile device sare one of the most susceptible mediums that hackers target for cyberattacks. Nearly every individual has a smartphone with them at all times. Throughout a normal day, a smartphone user is exposed to many networks; this includes unprotected WIFI networks, hotspots and more. When a user connects to an unprotected network, their data can be easily accessed. Additionally, smartphones are one of the most valuable assets. If a person unlocks a person’s smartphone, they can get access to sensitive information like credit cards, IDs, emails and passwords for all their websites.
